2 days

About the Course

Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the gold-standard treatment for depression and anxiety disorders. In this 2-day skills-focused and interactive workshop, participants will receive a thorough overview of CBT strategies that can be applied to assist adults aiming to return to work. Participants will learn and practice, step-by-step, how to engage clients in treatment, set SMART goals, and apply cognitive and behavioural techniques to reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms (e.g., self-monitoring, motivational interviewing, Socratic questioning, challenging unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, behavioural experiments, exposure, distress tolerance). Participants will also learn and practice how to identify and address key thoughts and behaviours that maintain depression and anxiety disorders such as, lack of motivation, avoidance, unhelpful automatic thoughts, and unhelpful behaviours (e.g., alcohol and substance use). This workshop is appropriate for mental healthcare professionals and students from disciplines including, psychology, psychiatry, social work, counselling, occupational therapy, and nursing, who work in career development. No familiarity with CBT is required.
