What is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

-
CBT emphasizes the connection between your thoughts, behaviours, emotions, and physical symptoms.
-
CBT focuses on the present; specifically, what is currently bothering you and what might be maintaining these difficulties.
-
CBT is an active form of therapy. You will learn and practice skills to manage these difficulties both in and between sessions.

CBT is known as the gold-standard psychological treatment as it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of several mental health conditions and concerns, including: eating disorders; anxiety disorders; depression and bipolar disorders; obsessive-compulsive disorder; body dysmorphic disorder; posttraumatic stress disorder; and insomnia.

What is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)?

DBT skills are designed to address four challenging aspects of life: the ability to manage difficult emotions; the ability to be assertive and interpersonally skillful; the ability to tolerate distress; and the ability to be mindful and present in our lives. Learning DBT skills has been shown to be effective in the treatment of borderline personality disorder as well as several other emotional and behavioural difficulties.
